Specs for the tablet include a Windows 7 running 12.1-inch (1080p capable) capacitive multi-touch IPS display made from Gorilla Glass. The heart of the machine is powered by an Intel Core i5-470UM processor. It can hold up to 4GB of RAM and is capable of 64 GB of SSD storage, making the Eee Slate formidable competition for other tablets such as the iPad. Other features for the tablet include Bluetooth 3.0, 802. 11 b/g/n Wi Fi, USB 2.0, mini HDMI output port, 2-in-1 audio jack (headphone/mic-in), and a 4-in-1 card reader (MMC/SD/SD/SDHC/SDXC). The tablet itself weighs in at 1.16 kg and is 16.95 mm thick. ASUS will also be including a wireless keyboard with standard purchase. However, if the Eee Slate really wants to send the iPad, and other tablets for that matter, running for the hills, it better hope that Windows 7 has worked out all its bugs, as that particular platform (which hasn't exactly received the best reviews as a tablet platform, ie Google's Android), may deter some consumer from shelling out the cash. Starting out at $999 for the 32GB and running up to $1099 for the 64GB, the Eee Slate is not for any Tom, Dick, or Harry looking to fit in with the tablet crowd. So, one must remember where this money is going toward: Many desktops don't even run on Intel Core i5 processors, and even more are incapable of 1080p. This machine is built for that business man/woman or techie on the go that need loads of space and speed at their finger tips. Available for preorder ...
